<strong>Attitudes</strong> Toward Health <strong>and</strong> Fitness:<br />
A Multivariate Segmentation<br />
This group does not exercise primarily because they have health problems<br />
or are too out <strong>of</strong> shape to engage in fitness activities. Segment most likely<br />
to be unsatisfied with life. Mostly women, older. Most do not currently<br />
engage in regular physical activity, <strong>and</strong> have no plans to start (69%).<br />
They are especially likely to be in “poor” health (34%).<br />
Major reasons they don’t exercise:<br />
• Have health problems that interfere with exercise (71%)<br />
• Feel tired/lacking energy (53%)<br />
• Afraid <strong>of</strong> getting hurt (20%)<br />
• Feel self-conscious (19%).<br />
Agree strongly/somewhat:<br />
• I cannot exercise because <strong>of</strong> health problems (71%)<br />
• I feel guilty when I see someone similar to myself exercising (67%)<br />
• I’m too out <strong>of</strong> shape to exercise (49%).<br />
