born in 1888, who died in 1891; Elizabeth,<br />
bom in 1890; and William, born in 1892.<br />
(6) Elizabeth E., bom Jan. 5, 1832, died Sept.<br />
11, 1838. (7) Simeon, born Jan. 22, 1835,<br />
lives in Taunton, Mass. (8) Joanna Pope,<br />
bom May 8, 1837, is the widow of Abraham<br />
W. Pierce and resides in New Bedford. (9)<br />
Henry M., born March 10, 1840, lived in Stockton,<br />
Cal., and died in 1901. (10) Andrew T.,<br />
born Oct. 1, 1842, died in New Bedford Aug.<br />
27, 1901.<br />
Thomas N. Nash was bom in New Bedford<br />
Aug. 2, 1826, and received his education<br />
in the public schools and at the Friends' Acad-<br />
emy. When a younp- man he learned painting<br />
with Potter & Hillman, and worked at the<br />
trade for five years, but finding it did not<br />
New Bedford, passed all his life in New Bedford,<br />
in time establishing his home on Elm<br />
street. He was a carpenter, and continued to<br />
follow that trade all his life, in his later years<br />
engaging in building and contracting. He was<br />
still in his prime at the time of his death<br />
which occurred Sept. 27, 1847. He was buried<br />
in the West cemetery at Mount Pleasant.<br />
There his wife is also interred. She was a<br />
member of the North Congregational Church.<br />
On Oct. 8, 1818, Mr. Nash married Thankful<br />
Young Pope, who was born Sept. 22, 1799,<br />
daughter of Jonathan and Keziah Pope, and<br />
died Nov. 8, 1886. Mr. and Mrs. Nash had<br />
a large family, viz.: (1) Hannah Peckham,<br />
born Sept. 22, 1819, died July 9, 1820. (2)<br />
John Peckham, born July 27, 1821, died Feb.<br />
2-, 1890, at Stockton, bom Jan. 2,<br />
Cal. (3) Lydia Ann,<br />
1824, married Calvin B. Nye, of<br />
Falmouth, Mass., born Aug. 7, 1820, died<br />
July (or Jan.) 6, 1887, and they had one son,<br />
William Prince Nye, born Oct. 14, 1846. Mrs.<br />
Nye died Dec. 13, 1900. William Prince Nye<br />
married Mary H. Sweet, of Providence, E. I.,<br />
and they have two sons, Walter C, bom Aug.<br />
7, 1874, and William Slater, born April 11,<br />
1877. In 1898 Walter C. Nye married Ruth<br />
Brayton, and he has one daughter, Dorothy,<br />
born Sept. 18, 1903. William Slater Nye mar-<br />
agree with his health he gave it up and settled<br />
on the farm, where he ever afterward made<br />
his home. This farm was a part of the original<br />
homestead of his grandfather, Simeon Nash,<br />
which in the latter's day comprised over one<br />
hundred acres, Thomas N. Nash inheriting<br />
from his uncle Thomas, for whom he was<br />
named, a third part of this homestead. His<br />
share consisted of thirty acres, on which he<br />
made extensive improvements and engaged in<br />
farming in a small way, his principal product<br />
being milk. In 1850 he erected the present<br />
house. He was in poor health for some time<br />
before his death, which occurred there June<br />
27, 1902. He was buried in Oak Grove cemetery.<br />
New Bedford. Mr. Nash was a Republican<br />
in political matters.<br />
On May 14, 1851, Mr. Nash married Caroline<br />
Borden, who was born in Fall River,<br />
daughter of Melvin Borden, and died June 8,<br />
1856, the mother of children as follows: (1)<br />
Abby, born April 30, 1852, married May 22,<br />
1877, William S. White, who died in New Bedford<br />
April 24, 1904. They bad three children:<br />
Thomas Nash, born March 8, 1879, who married<br />
June 10, 1901, Jennie N. Burt, of New<br />
Bedford, and had Winifred Sherman (bom<br />
Aug. 16, 1902, who died in infancy), Thomas<br />
Nash (born Aug. 16, 1903), Elizabeth Wilton<br />
(born March 25, 1905), George Burt (bom<br />
Sept. 22, 1906, who died Sept. 30, 1907) and<br />
William Sherman (born Jan. 20, 1908) ;<br />
Horace D., bom Sept. 30, 1880, who died April<br />
23, 1900; and Carrie B., born Feb. 8, 1884,<br />
who died March 19, 1885. (2) Caroline A.,<br />
bom Sept. 3, 1853, died March 19, 1864. (3)<br />
