Ahistorical trademark symbolic of Milanese cake-making, Tre Marie lives poised between tradition<br />
<strong>and</strong> legend. It is told that a group of knights, returning from the Holy L<strong>and</strong> in 1150,<br />
founded the Confraternity of the Four Maries. Their bakery offered fl our <strong>and</strong> bread to the needy, in<br />
exchange for copper coins portraying the four pious women most loved by Jesus. Over the years the heritage of the<br />
confraternity was taken up by the bakery of the Tre Marie (Three Maries), the signboard of which, as a mark of respect,<br />
separated the image of the Blessed Virgin from that of the ‘lesser’ Maries. Thus was born the Tre Marie trademark. During<br />
the centuries the bakery was transformed <strong>and</strong> in 1896 became the famous pastry-shop in Milan’s Corso Vittorio Emanuele.<br />
In the 1960s it was decided to ‘export’ the Panettone beyond the city walls of Milan. No fewer than 150 letters were written<br />
by h<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> sent to the most representative pastry-shops of Italy, proposing an ‘exclusive’ offer of the Christmas product.<br />
It was a genuine success <strong>and</strong> the panettone began to be sent to every corner of the Italian peninsula. Now, as then, the Tre<br />
Marie panettone is the result of a process that pays homage to artisan skills. Tre Marie panettoni are today divided into three<br />
lines: Le Origini, Pasticceria <strong>and</strong> Contemporanea. A trademark of the GranMilano company, Tre Marie also offers p<strong>and</strong>oro,<br />
pralines, Easter eggs <strong>and</strong> colombe, as well as a rich line of frozen croissants providing a high quality breakfast for those eating<br />
away from home. This year Tre Marie has created two new products, one sweet <strong>and</strong> one savoury, specially conceived to<br />
be completed by the consumers’ inspiration <strong>and</strong> imagination. The sweet panettone has no raisins or c<strong>and</strong>ied fruits, the<br />
savoury one is the Tre Marie’s interpretation of the gastronomic Milanese panettone. Tre Marie invited two internationally<br />
famous chefs to interpret them in the light of their own gastronomic philosophy. Davide Oldani has therefore<br />
created a series of recipes for the sweet panettone <strong>and</strong> Carlo Cracco has interpreted the savoury one. The two<br />
new panettoni are offered in a gift box also containing recipes by the chefs.<br />
