(CABG) patients.

To compare the safety and efficacy
of an analgesic drug following
CABG in a double-blind, placebo
controlled RCT.
Pain assessment was registered by
a modified version of the BPI (m-
BPI). The m-BPI contains 3 severity
items and 5 interference items. The
3 pain severity items are “worst
pain”, “pain on the average”, and
“pain right now”. The 5 interference
items are “walking ability”, “mood”,
“sleep”, “relations with others”, and
“ability to sleep”. The m-BPI was
presented to patients beginning on
the fourth postsurgical day through
at least day 14. A single sternotomy
pain item was administered daily
during the 2 weeks after surgery.
