Amphetamine and Related Drugs

Dragendorff spray
Yellow, orange, red-orange, red orange, or brown-orange brown orange spots
are given by tertiary alkaloids. This reagent may be
used to overspray a plate which has been previously
sprayed with ninhydrin spray and FPN spray.
Dragendorff Spray: (a) mix together 2 g of bismuth
subnitrate, subnitrate,
25 mL of acetic acid, and 100 mL of
water; (b) dissolve 40 g of potassium iodide in
100 mL of water. Mix together 10 mL of (a), 10 mL
of (b), 20 mL of acetic acid, and 100 mL of water.
Prepare every 2 days.
