2.2.2. Buila-Vanturarita Massif Field Trip This autumn‟s field trip took place in the last weekend of October, from the 24 th to 26 th , in the Buila-Vanturarita Massif. The Buila-Vanturarita National Park is administrated by the Kogayon NGO. There are many members of Kogayon who are <strong>geo</strong>logists or study <strong>geo</strong>logy or <strong>geo</strong>sciences and some who are also members of our chapter, so we have a very good collaboration with this association. As a result of our good relationship, they gave us access to the Codric refuge in the mountains, where we camped, and two of them came with us as „<strong>geo</strong>logic guides‟. The purpose of this field trip was for the students to understand the tectonic setting and the stratigraphy of the massif. This whole zone is part of the Carpathian Orogeny. The Buila Vanturarita Massif is part of the Getic Nappe, which was put in place during the Laramie Tectogenesis. The important thing about this massif is that you can see both the crystalline basement and the sedimentary cover on several valleys. We followed the Bistrita Valley to grasp the transition between the two. We also mapped part of the Valley. Page | 9
2.2.3. Ciucas Mountains Field Trip First of all, BSC wants to thank AAPG for the financial support, because without the funds from The Lake Austin Weeks Grant this field trip wouldn’t have taken place. This field trip took place in spring (April 24 th – 26 th 2009). We were guided by our Faculty Advisor Prof. Dr. Nicolae Anastasiu. He is an extremely good sedimentologist and knows very well the area. We also invited Lect. Dr. Marius Mocuta who specializes in Engineering Geology. The field trip fallowed two important river valleys: Teleajen Valley and Buzau Valley (the trip covered 500 km). On both Valleys we had both <strong>geo</strong>logical objectives and engineering <strong>geo</strong>logic objectives (Maneciu Dam and Siriu dam). On the Teleajen Valley we saw the Kliwa Page | 10
