Another important part of BSC collaboration with the SEG <strong>Student</strong> Section in our
faculty is the lecture programs the SEG provides, the Distinguished Lecturer Program and
the Honorary Lecturer Program.
In the fall of 2008, we
had the SEG/AAPG
Distinguished Lecturer Peter
M. Duncan. His presentation
was called Aggressively
passive: Microseismic
opportunities over an
oilfield’s life. This lecture
presented a view on the
history and development of passive seismic techniques, a discussion through state of the art
case histories and a vision on where this technology will play a role in the smart oil field of
the future. It was a pleasure listening to Peter Duncan, because he is an excellent lecturer
and a very charismatic person.
We were very lucky to have Peter Duncan at our faculty, as out of the 30 faculties in
Europe that applied for it, only 6 were selected to host this lecture. The selection of our
faculty for this program was the result of the very active and very efficient activities our
AAPG and SEG <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>s have every year.
In the spring of 2009, on the 1 st of April, the SEG Honorary Lecturer Per Avseth
came at our faculty for a course. Per Avseth is a <strong>geo</strong>physical adviser at Odin Petroleum in
Bergen, Norway, and a consultant to oil companies within the field of quantitative seismic
interpretation and rock physics analysis. He is also an adjunct professor in applied
<strong>geo</strong>physics at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim,
Norway. His lecture was called Mind the gap in seismic reservoir prediction:
How rock physics can bridge the gap between qualitative <strong>geo</strong>logy and quantitative
<strong>geo</strong>physics. Both events both organized by the two student chapters, supported by the
faculty officials. The attendance was very satisfactory and the impact was big.
