When the 2008-2009 academic year began, we found ourselves with the BSC office full of piles of books. We had a logistic meeting and decided how to turn our office in a library and still have enough space for our daily activities. We had to have all the work done until the BSC Christmas Party, which always takes place in our office. When we started the work we had about two months left until Christmas and we had to it all after classes and in weekends. We also had to start the practice for the BSC carols choir some weeks before Christmas, so we were on for a busy semester. It followed several weeks of dividing the books into categories - the criteria was the <strong>geo</strong>sciences branch that they approached, cleaning them and putting them in alphabetical order by the first author. We also had to make room in the office; it was very difficult to find things we could do without and throw them away. With this occasion we discovered among our hundreds of rock samples a couple of tens which were radioactive and we were astonished. We obviously got rid of them. At one point we reached the stage when we actually needed library shelves. That was when we realized we had a big problem. Someone had promised us a sponsorship for the shelves but then failed us, so had to think of something else. We had no money so we had to improvise. The boys brought some carpenter tools and modified the old furniture we had in the office and we didn`t use. It took a lot of work, good planning and very skilled hands, however we <strong>final</strong>ly got our library shelves. Then as we put the books on the shelves we also introduced them in the library database. This was taking an awful lot of time and the Christmas party was coming. And so we didn`t get to finish introducing all the books in the database before the Christmas party, and we postponed this process. As the first semester was nearly over, and we knew that the second one is awfully busy for us all, we were going to complete the database in the fall of next year. This is in process now and it is going to be complete soon. However it may be, in spite of what we had expected, we managed to do quite a lot of things in just two months. So even if we do not have an exact keeping of the books yet, the library has been extremely useful to the BSC members and we now use our office as a library and as a reading room too. This library is an enormous advantage for all the BSC members and we feel that it is a great achievement. We look forward to complete the data base in order to be more effective in keeping the evidence of books and in finding what we need. Page | 37
2.10. The BSC Christmas Celebration Our chapter organizes every year a Christmas Celebration where all the teaching staff is invited, together with all BSC members ever, from all generations, not just the present ones. Usually, the most talented of BSC members put up a carols` choir, for which they prepare weeks before. At the 2008 Christmas Celebration we had the most well prepared choir ever. It was made up from 11 singers and two guitar players, conducted by an extremely talented student of ours, Agatha Croitor In addition, this year we had a presentation, with all that BSC has achieved throughout the years that was addressed especially to the teaching staff. We sometimes encounter difficulties in dealing with some of our teachers and we thought that if we would show them what exactly what we do, they would understand and be more supportive. The response was positive; they were impressed and pleasantly surprised. We have always tried to have a good collaboration with them but most of them are usually too busy to mind us and so our activities remain unnoticed. We intend of making this presentation be permanent, not to let our activity pass through them. And of course, after these, we have a networking party, where students and teachers have the chance to interact in a pleasant atmosphere. Preparing this Christmas event takes a lot of work and dedication, but we enjoy doing it. We cook all the food ourselves and we gather money for the decorations and everything else we need. We always feel very satisfied when all the preparations are ready and we are waiting for the guests to arrive. Next year it is going to be a special Christmas celebration, because BSC will have its 10 th anniversary. Page | 38
