Bucharest Student Chapter final report - geo.edu.ro

The event will take place between 22 rd and 24 th of April 2010. The venue will be
the World Trade Center <strong>Bucharest</strong> conference centre
The conference will consist of the following events:
- The 11 th Symposium of Romanian <strong>Student</strong> Geologists – traditional event for
Romanian students. Its main goal is to gather Romanian <strong>geo</strong>sciences students from all
over the country and offer them the chance to compete with oral scientific presentations
for the 3 sets of awards, one for each thematic section. The presentation have always been
made in Romanian, this being a tradition that we don‟t intend to change.
- The 1 st International Geosciences <strong>Student</strong> Symposium – an event attached to the
previous, with similar goals, the difference being the target group, in this case being any
students interesting in competing at international level, with oral and poster presentation
made in English. The 1 st International Geosciences Job Fair – 3 days event that will take
place in the Plaza Room of the WTC conference centre and will consist of a fair where
companies will present to students their field, structure, technology and opportunities as
an employee. The exhibition room will be organized in booths, each company owning
one, according with the financing package chosen. There will be some booths available
for real or trial interviews where specialists of companies will investigate the resource
that the participant students are representing.
- Short courses and lectures held by highly qualified distinguished guests. Three of
these programs will be organized and they will be offered by the three partner societies:
SEG, AAPG and respectively EAGE.
- The SEG/Exxon Mobile <strong>Student</strong> Education Program – two days training course in
petroleum exploration realized by professional trainers from Exxon Mobile. The event
will take place during 20 th – 21 st of April and will offer travel grants for students all
around Europe to be able to attend the program and the IGSC.
- The Challenge Bowl competition – program offered by the SEG Foundation and
organized by Peter Duncan. The event consists of an international quiz with questions
from all the fields of <strong>geo</strong>logy (petrology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, <strong>geo</strong>physics,
structural <strong>geo</strong>logy, petroleum <strong>geo</strong>logy etc.). The winning team will receive a travel grant
to attend the big <strong>final</strong> of the contest which will be organized in Denver, USA, during the
SEG Annual Meeting in 2010.
- The field trip – a one or two days field application on the Prahova Valley and in the
Carpathian Mountains, with opportunities for visiting grate <strong>geo</strong>logical phenomenons and
outcrops, with guidance from professors of the University of <strong>Bucharest</strong>.
