2.9. The BSC Library
The BSC Library is a big project of ours, which started as a “rescue operation” last
summer, after our faculty decided to dissolve the Tempus Library.
The Tempus Library was an old library of our faculty which was put up by students
many years ago. Note that this was not the official faculty library. In time, it became very
rich, as many of the professors and <strong>geo</strong>logic and <strong>geo</strong>physics societies donated collections of
books. The Tempus Library also comprises all the publications of the Romanian Geologic
Society. The library was taken care of by students; it was very well organized and was
available to all the students of our faculty.
The decision to dissolve the Tempus Library was made because in time, the library
had been abandoned and nobody dared to start over and manage it. The faculty decided
they needed the space, they so we offered to put up a new library, in the BSC office, which
had enough space. It was going to take an enormous amount of work, but we couldn`t let
this opportunity be wasted. Then the fun started.
It was at
the end of 2008
summer session
of exams when
we started to
move all the
books to our
office. Between
the exams and
the learning, we
used to get
together and we
all put a
shoulder into it. We took turns, but there were at least 8 of us every day. Imagine the dust
and the mess in a room stuffed with books which no one cleaned for years. We opened the
windows, put on some music and started carrying books to the floor below, in the BSC
office. It took us about a week to finish with this. Then the holiday came and most of us
left <strong>Bucharest</strong> and to our hometowns. We were going to continue the work in the fall.
