2.4.7. MOL – Freshhh 2009 Competition The Freshhh Competition is organized yearly by the Hungarian Oil Company MOL. It is addressed to students in all fields, with no exceptions, but is obvious that only those with interest in the oil and gas industry have a real chance in it. For nearly 40 days, from March 5th until early April 2009, over 1000 students from 32 countries were competing in two tough rounds to qualify for the Live Final. The teams were made up from 3 students. Our faculty had 9 teams in the competition. On-line Board Game Round During the on-line board game the participants were introduced to the exciting world of the oil and gas industry. On the on-line board game the teams found the track which imitated the value chain of the oil and gas industry. It started with Exploration and Production, followed by Refining, Petro-chemistry, Logistics, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Wholesale and Retail. Each round covered one element of the value chain and required 1.5 – 3 days to capture the points. Within a round, related to the given value chain element, the teams were challenged with 3 different tasks: quiz questions, an on-the-job task and a logical game. Creative Round The task was to develop a game focusing on oil and gas industry. The teams had two options to select from: A game developed for general public (e.g.: gasoline customers at filling stations, business partners, employees‟ families, etc.) with an objective of providing high level information, generating interest in the industry while having fun A game developed for secondary school students with an objective of utilization in <strong>edu</strong>cation as a supporting tool for teaching natural sciences while introducing oil and gas industry in an attractive, enjoyable way. The Live Final There were 10 teams in the live <strong>final</strong> in Budapest, but unfortunately there was none from our faculty. Each team prepared a 10-minute presentation introducing their game idea focusing on oil and gas industry. Page | 27
2.5. The ‘Geoecologia’ <strong>Student</strong> Symposium, Petrosani 2008 The “Geoecologia 2007” Symposium is a yearly event that takes place since 1999. It is being organized by the Faculty of Mines, affiliated at the University of Petrosani. Petrosani is a Romanian city situated in an area with an intense mining activity. This year was the 4 th time when members of BSC participated in this symposium. The event lasted for three days: 27-29 November 2008. The oral presentations were divided in 5 sections: - Geology and Geophysics - Environmental Engineering - Mineral Resources Processing - Civil Engineering, Topography, GIS - Economic Engineering - Mining Engineering Giving the structure of the technical program, all the students from our faculty (BSC members) participated in one section, along with students from Petrosani, Cluj- Napoca and Iasi. The first place was taken by Florentina Enea – ex-BSC president, the second was taken by a student from Cluj- Napoca and the third place was taken by another student of ours, Christian Stanciu. Of course, all the other presentations were very good and professional as well. Page | 28
