Nick Lagrilliere was just starting with the AAPG European Region <strong>Student</strong> affairs and encouraged students to get involved and be part of the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>s Committee. As a result of this discussion, Florentina Enea, a former president of BSC is now on this committee. The discussion lead us from one thing to another and we end up sharing experience and giving advice to the newer student chapters in how to organize and administrate. It was a good opportunity to find out what activities other student chapters have and from whom they get their financial support. Getting money for the student chapter activities is a very delicate problem and we all tried to brainstorm some ideas. We also talked about some potential joint field camps. The ideas and the solutions we got from that meeting remained, some of them have been implemented, some of them are on the way of being implemented, or still wait for the best time and resources. All in all, the <strong>Student</strong> leadership Meeting in Prague is a good opportunity to link with officers from other SC and surely it is good for the AAPG European Region, as it is growing. 2.4.5. 71 st EAGE Conference & Exhibition EAGE is a professional association for <strong>geo</strong>scientists and engineers. It is a European based organization with a worldwide membership providing a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. The 71 st EAGE Conference & Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2009 was held in Amsterdam, 8-11 June, 2009, the conference theme being “Balancing Global Resources”, the search for the right mix of traditional and new approaches to meet world demand for energy, in a sustainable and responsible way. The technical program consisted in oral and poster presentations as well as workshops, field trips and short courses covering a whole range of <strong>geo</strong>sciences disciplines. The student program was divided into 3 parallel sections including the student court activities, the student short courses and the trial interviews. A Romanian team consisting of BSC members took part at this major event, actively participating at all student sections. That included oral and poster presentations, SPE EUROPEC, 4 teams participating at the Geo-Quiz Challenge, EAGE <strong>Student</strong> Evening, trial interviews, short courses, etc. Several members also received travel grants from EAGE <strong>Student</strong> Fund and its official sponsors. Participating at International <strong>geo</strong>sciences conferences is a key aspect of every student‟s life, with further implications in his career development. The EAGE student program gave us the opportunity to optimize our chances in pursuing careers in Geology, Geophysics and Petroleum Engineering. Currently, several BSC members are preparing for their participation at the next EAGE Conference, to be held in Barcelona, June 2010. We hope to make a wonderful impression and also to make the most out of our attendance at this outstanding international event. Page | 24
