phase <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> composite intrusion that hosts <strong>the</strong> bulk <strong>of</strong> gold mineralization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kirkland Lake ore<br />

deposit. It was selected to provide a maximum age for development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fault and <strong>the</strong> associated gold<br />

mineralization. Unfortunately, <strong>the</strong> only zircons found for TIMS analysis are considered to be xenocrysts<br />

ranging in age <strong>from</strong> ca. 2690 to 2701 Ma (sample 03JAA-0006, #30: Table 1, Figure 7B). SHRIMP<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> this sample suggests <strong>the</strong> presence <strong>of</strong> younger, but considerably less precise zircon ages to<br />

about 2685 Ma and possible even younger grains to 2645 Ma which could be metamorphic or<br />

hydro<strong>the</strong>rmal (Figure 18).<br />
