The traditional sector, as demonstrated in the
Report, has advantages, which are currently
not adequately exploited. The leaders of the
traditional structures should be capacitised
through training and sensitisation to harness
the skills and resources that are necessary for
the enhancement of the MDGs. Steps should
be taken to intensify their role in the combat
against HIV/AIDS and in the implementation
of poverty alleviation programmes.
Measures should also be taken to ensure that
these structures are not politicised and that
they are essentially used for national
development activities and for the promotion
of cultural values and traditions.
Finally, positive steps should be taken
through training, sensitisation and advocacy
to increase the participation of women in
decision-making and to enhance gender
equality.
