7. N ow by the temple gate
Th ere lay a poor sore creature, blind, and shunned by all;
But when t he peasant came, and saw the sight less face
And trembli ng, festered hands, he could not pass, but knelt,
And took both palms in his, and soft ly said: "0 thou
~Iy broth er, bear thy t rouble bravely ; God is good."
Th en he a rose and walk ed straightway across the court,
And entered where th ey wra ngled of their deeds of love
Before t he priests.

Awhile he listened sadly, then
H ad turned away ; but something moved the priest who

The plate of gold to beckon to th e peasant. So
H e came, not und erstanding, and obeyed, aIHI st retched
H is hand, and took the sacred vessel. Lo ! it shone
'Vith t hrice its form er lustre, and amazed them all.
