It was assumed that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2"'' deck would require structural modificati<strong>on</strong>s due <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> thinner shell<br />
plating <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sp<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong>s (compared <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> thicker hull shell plating found <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 8"' deck voids).<br />
Two sp<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong> voids were analyzed in depth for cost estimati<strong>on</strong> purposes, 2-165-8-V and 2-180-6-<br />
V. All producti<strong>on</strong> and material costs were based <strong>on</strong> prepping and work <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> entire tank. As a<br />
result, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2"'* deck void costs are much higher than <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 4"* and 8* deck voids due <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir size.<br />
Similarly, a thumb rule was applied <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> T"^ deck voids when filled <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 95% and no canning pate<br />
work was required. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal structural work, for both producti<strong>on</strong> and material costs, is half <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
cost of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> canning plate work. These cost estimates do not take in<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> account relocati<strong>on</strong> of<br />
existing utilities that may be running through <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> spaces. An analysis was performed, however,<br />
that determined that ballasting <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se selected tanks would have little, if any impact <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tanks,<br />
and that relocati<strong>on</strong> of utilities would probably not be required.<br />
Table 2 is an example cost comparis<strong>on</strong> of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> preliminary cost estimati<strong>on</strong> results found.<br />
Producti<strong>on</strong> and material costs are <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same regardless of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> density of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ballast being used.<br />
