2.4.1 Structural Modificati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

2.4.1.1 Modificati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2'"' Deck<br />

There were actually three port sp<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong> voids modeled in POSSE <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2° deck.<br />

Due <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> existing geometrical similarities between <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tanks, <strong>on</strong>ly compartment 2-165-8-V was<br />

analyzed for possible structural modificati<strong>on</strong>s. Basic dimensi<strong>on</strong>s and tank geometry can be seen<br />

below in Figure 2.<br />

It was found that <strong>on</strong>ly 281 I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns of ballast could be added <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> this compartment in order<br />

not <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> exceed <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 1000 psf sp<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong> shell plating maximum pressure criteria. Table 3 shows <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

required structural modificati<strong>on</strong>s for compartment 2-165-8-V for a 281 I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n ballast additi<strong>on</strong> at<br />

200 Ib/ft^. All calculati<strong>on</strong>s are located in Appendix E.<br />
