3.1 Final POSSE Results<br />
The minimum amount of 200 Ib/ft^ ballast that could be added <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> compartment 2-165-8-V<br />
was found <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be 281 I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns which corresp<strong>on</strong>ds <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 79% of that compartment's <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal capacity. Up<br />
until this point, all tanks had been analyzed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 95% of <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal capacity due <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> structural internals or<br />
possible utilities running through <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> space. Structural analysis was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n performed for<br />
compartment 2-180-6-V. A minimum ballast weight of 448 I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns was calculated so that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
maximum pressure design criteri<strong>on</strong> of 1000 psf was not violated. Because less ballast could be<br />
added <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se tanks, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> POSSE analysis had <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be expanded <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> include compartment 2-250-4-V.<br />
These new results for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2""^ deck had little effect <strong>on</strong> KG and <strong>on</strong>ly enhanced <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> aft trim<br />
correcti<strong>on</strong>.<br />
The minimum amount of 200 Ib/ft^ ballast that could be added <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> compartment 8-225-6-V<br />
was 227 I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns. This was calculated <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> avoid performing structural modificati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ship shell<br />
plating. As a result, <strong>on</strong>ly 90% of that compartment's <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal capacity could be utilized which was<br />
5% less than originally analyzed in POSSE. This time, ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r than perform a structural analysis<br />
<strong>on</strong> all <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 8* deck voids, a maximum capacity thumb rule of 90% was applied <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> all <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> 8"' deck<br />
voids. As a result, different tanks were selected and analyzed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> achieve <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> least I<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n additi<strong>on</strong><br />
for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same incremental change in degrees. Again, this had little effect <strong>on</strong> KG and change in<br />
trim.<br />
A table providing POSSE modeling results in a combat load c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong> for list correcti<strong>on</strong><br />
in half degree increments up <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 3 degrees for 200 Ib/ft^ is included in Appendix F. This<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> includes:<br />
• Tank name<br />
• Tank volume<br />
