Hall (1S00-S9) was for many years one of the most industrious literary
men in London, a parliamentary reporter and for many years the
editor of the "Art journal." He knew most of the artistic and
literary people of his time.

Henrietta Maria (1609-69) was the daughter of Henry IV of France
and wife of Charles I of England. The object of the book is not to
present a period of history, only so far as it is necessary in depicting
the life of the queen. Henrietta Maria is here represented as a vivid

kept up the false argument based upon garbled returns of opposing
