the War Department at Grant's headquarters in most of his
campaigns from Vicksburg to Richmond inclusive. General Wilson had

Sir George Grey (1799—1882) was an English statesman who had a
long and singularly honorable parliamentary career. This memoir
is hardly more than a biographical sketch written when the author
was rector of Embleton, the home of the Greys.
Hakluyt, Richard.

Hakluyt (i552?-i6l6) was an English geographer who was greatly
interested in preserving the accounts of early voyages and travels.
The society established in London in 1846 has for its object the reprinting
of rare works on early geography, travels and history.
Hastings, Warren.
Letters to his wife; transcribed in full from the originals
in the British Museum; introduced and annotated

Hastings (1732-1818) was governor-general of India.
Though the letters contain many references to the politics of India
they are first of all love letters and interesting as showing the
domestic side of a man of action. The editor, whose attitude is
that of a hero-worshipper, has provided valuable annotations.
