narrate their poems, Guru Sahib directed lamuna to pass on silently<br />

from that place. Thereafter there was a complete noise free and serene<br />

atmosphere.<br />

iv) Delhi<br />

Delhi, though a small state is very important for Sikhs as some<br />

very important historical Gurdwaras are located here. The city being<br />

capital ofthe country has a significant impact on the cultural, political,<br />

religious and social lives ofthe people. The physical span period ofour<br />

Gurus and the Mughal dynasty was almost identical. Babar, the first<br />

Mughal came during Guru Nanak Sahib's period and Aurangzeb all<br />

powerful and virtually last emperor of any reckoning, died during<br />

Guru Gobind Singh Sahib's life. As the message of Gursikhi was<br />

spreading to every home, the fanatic rulers-could not tolerate the same<br />

as they were working with some different intentions. There were long<br />

spells ofconfrontations. There were sacrifices, martyrdoms, wars and<br />

battles. Ultimately the Mughal rule ended and British took over from<br />

them. But in Punjab, the Khalsa was able to establish its own Raj.<br />

Banda Bahadur sowed the seeds and took the revenge from the culprits<br />

of our Gurus, Sahibzadas and dear Gursikhs. Then Sikh Misls came<br />

followed by Khalsa 'Sarkar' of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The English<br />

ruled over Punjab for about 100 years, but were not allowed to sit in<br />

peace through out this period, particularly from the lallianwala Bagh<br />

episode.<br />

This all implied that during all this period Sikhs were especially<br />

associated with Delhi. Several significant events took place here and<br />

accordingly some very important historical Gurdwaras have been<br />

established here. Moreover, Delhi is the only city out ofPunjab, that<br />
