• How does the reflection <strong>of</strong> academia translate into action on the<br />

part <strong>of</strong> community institutions within the CBR partnership?<br />

• <strong>The</strong> question <strong>of</strong> centralisation <strong>of</strong> the initiative within the<br />

university was raised. Would this enhance the recruitment,<br />

project potential (multidisciplinary) and efficiency <strong>of</strong> the<br />

initiative?<br />

• Is there scope <strong>for</strong> a multi-organisational approach?<br />

• Regarding the Neighbourhood Policing Project, is there scope<br />

to extend the involvement in the police–public consultation<br />

process to create an analysis <strong>of</strong> public survey results across<br />

many neighbourhoods in Ox<strong>for</strong>d? And will Brookes and the<br />

Thames Valley Police be able to work together to recommend<br />

an improved means <strong>of</strong> delivering public consultation?<br />

• Where will the publication <strong>of</strong> these and future projects take<br />

place and who will they be accessible to?<br />

Where next?<br />

Addressing the reflections and queries listed above is an appropriate<br />

means <strong>of</strong> gauging our progress and contemplating how we aim to move<br />

<strong>for</strong>ward with the initiative. Many <strong>of</strong> these considerations were also our<br />

own, and it was interesting to hear people, unfamiliar with the CBR<br />

initiative prior to the conference, asking the same questions. All <strong>of</strong> the<br />

queries raised were pressing issues that need to <strong>for</strong>m a part <strong>of</strong> our pilotyear<br />

review.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the hardest questions to answer after running the pilot was<br />

whether this initiative acts in any <strong>for</strong>m on community life as it is lived <strong>for</strong><br />

citizens and does it impinge on social deprivation? We believe that<br />

involving a public resource such as a university in as many ways as possible<br />

in local communities is a valuable use <strong>of</strong> resources. <strong>The</strong> CBR initiative at<br />

Brookes is just one <strong>of</strong> the ways we can be involved and provide a<br />

resource/service through mutually beneficial partnership with community<br />

organisations. In this year’s pilot schemes, <strong>for</strong> example, the<br />
