Availability for onsite testing is limited, notes Wills, and is on a
first-come, first-served basis. “On-site registration will be available
- space permitting - but to guarantee your ability to test advanced
registration is strongly encouraged,” he adds. “When making your
reservation, please be sure that your certification exam time does
not interfere with any training or other activities that you have
signed up for at ISE. InfoComm will not be able to issue refunds
resulting from double-booking.”
It is unfortunately the case that, during times of economic
hardship when budgets are being cut to the bone, education and
training are often the first to fall by the wayside. Like marketing
communications, all too many business leaders see it as a cost rather
than as an investment. But as Derek Bok, one time president
of Harvard University, famously said: “If you think education is
expensive – try ignorance”. For AV professionals, an ongoing
commitment to training and education should be considered to
be non-optional.

Advanced Fibre Optic Design Principles

Many AV systems rely on fibre optic technology
for secure transmission of data, error-free
delivery of content, and signal integrity over
extremely long distances. In the Advanced
Fibre Optic Design Principles course, you will
enhance your knowledge of critical system
design techniques utilizing fibre technology.
The course teaches you how to calculate a
system's optical loss budget and design the
system within this budget. You will gain a
thorough understanding of how both digital
and analogue AV signals can be transmitted
with pixel for pixel quality at distances up to
30 kilometres. This course will provide you
with the knowledge to successfully design
cutting-edge fibre technology into new or
existing AV systems.

Audiovisual Standards in Business and
Practice

This course is intended for the audiovisual
business professional involved in design,
sales, and technical operations. Performance
Standards are new to the AV Industry, and
their implementation implies a strategy for
every firm. This requires attention from both
the technical and business perspectives. This
seminar will review the current and future
InfoComm standards as a basis for system
design, production, sales, and support. How
audiovisual standards benefit clients and
their projects will be discussed. Participants
will be engaged in exploring how the
audiovisual profession can be elevated by
encouraging standards adoption throughout
the architectural design and construction
professions and by participating in standards
development.

AVB: The future of standards-based AV
networking

This presentation will explore the role of the
IEEE 802.1 Audio/Video Bridging [AVB]
Standards in the professional AV industry,
and will include an in-depth explanation of
AVB and related IEEE standards. Advantages
of an open-source, non-proprietary
networking technology will be discussed, as
well as the role of silicon makers to ensure a
cost-effective solution and the critical role a
compliance program will play to ensure
interoperability of AVB devices. The session
will look at how high quality audio can be sent
over Ethernet with extremely low latency.
Attendees will be introduced to the IEEE AVB
standard for networking audio and video and
will learn how this development will change
the way systems are designed, installed, and
implemented.
