Black A quiet revolution is taking place in architecture and construction that fundamentally alters the fabric of the audiovisual design and integration business. This revolution is the increased utilization of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the design, build and maintenance of constructed facilities. Modelling allows designers to view the building and its contents from any angle, revealing potential problems at early stages so correction occurs before integration. BIM impacts Green analysis and becomes a vehicle for facility installation and future maintenance. This workshop focuses on how BIM changes integrator workflow and provides guidelines through using BIM or working with BIM consultants. 1300 - 1400 Digital Signage Adoption by Universities Steven Keith Platt Universities globally are rapidly adopting digital communication networks. In this session, we will cover the who (examples), and why (rationale behind adoption). We will discuss our recent Research Report, Communication Effectiveness in Higher Education, which details the use of both traditional and new media channels by college administrators to communicate with students, faculty and staff. Andrews & Michael H. Weckesser Time and again I come across systems that have been badly specified and where the person who has spoken to the customer hasnt asked the right questions about how the customer wants the system to work etc. This seminar would need to be focused on the Q&A techniques needed to establish exactly what the customer wants and to understand the technology required to deliver that same system. 1430 - 1530 Image, Sound and Connectivity: Why the systems integrator will never be out of work John Lockwood, CTS-D Over the past five years there has been a growing concern that the AV/IT convergence heralds a potential decline in the AV integration market. Convergence does mean IT departments will have much greater steer on what happens where, however, it also means project management and integration become more essential than ever. We will discuss trends in office space design from over the last two years with interior architects to argue that, although the technology is evolving, the need for purposefully-built collaboration spaces, and their integrators, is on the rise. 1600 - 1700 Introduction to 3D Video and HDMI 1.4a: Demystifying the latest buzz words Neta Lempert 3D video is stirring the entire AV world. HDMI 1.4a supports the latest 3D formats. In this session we will overview the history of 3D images and videos and explain how modern 3D video systems work. We will also discuss compatibility of existing AV products with 3D formats and how to build 3D ready AV systems. 1600 - 1700 Low Voltage Audio Systems: Raising the Bar Miguel Lourtie Low voltage audio systems have been a mainstay of the installation and integrator world for as long as most can remember. These distributed, low profile systems are prevalent in all types of applications from boardrooms, hotels, convention centres, airports, and beyond. Nearly every public facility has the need for these low voltage systems to handle announcements, background music, and public address. However, despite the prevalence of this application, there is a general acceptance that these systems are functional, but of low quality. Recently this acceptance has been challenged by system designers and integrators who see the potential to raise the bar and push toward higher quality designs employing low voltage systems that rival the performance previously only expected of systems for reproducing high-quality audio and critical listening. In this presentation we will explore a variety of designs and installations that challenge the notion that low voltage systems are incapable of reproducing high-quality audio and demonstrate that, with the tools available today for design, measurement, and optimization, the expectation for high-quality installations utilizing low voltage systems can and should be much higher. 1600 - 1700 Trends, Challenges and Expectations for Signal Transport and System Control in the AV Market Anton Thielen, B Eng Signal transport and system control are changing rapidly in the AV Market today. Regarding system control, trends show us that the focus will be on remote control and monitoring of audio, video, and audio/video systems to manage a large range of devices and with multivendor compatibility. For signal transport the challenges are many including the exchange of digital audio and video streams over Ethernet networks, delivering correctly timed and synchronized audio and video samples, dealing with many channels (increasing bandwidth), and aiming for standardization (IEEE AVB, AVNu and IETF). This seminar will examine the trends and challenges facing the market to help shape expectations and prepare for the future. 1 Feb 2012 1000 - 1100 Is Digital Signage Losing its Impact? Learn how audiovisual and IT technologies are being used in new ways that go beyond the traditional notion of AV. 1600 - 1700 Projection Mapping Tim Brooksbank Edge blending is often used to create large bright images from several projectors. Traditionally it suffers from loss of quality and complex set-up issues related to the mechanical alignment of the images from each projector. By use of electronic image warping to bend the images from each projector to the correct shape, multiple projectors can be easily aligned even on surfaces which are not flat. This presentation will explain the process used to achieve alignment in a real-world install.
