Noch einmal darf ich Sie als Präsident der Mint
Directors Conference zur World Money Fair 2014
begrüßen, bevor ich im Mai an meine Kollegen
von der Casa de Moneda de México übergebe. Für
die Münze Österreich AG ist die World Money Fair
2014 ein besonderes Ereignis, dürfen wir uns doch
anlässlich unseres 820. bzw. unseres 25. Geburtstages
als Ehrengast dieses wichtigen Zusammentreffens
der gesamten Münzwelt präsentieren.
1194 wurde die Münze Österreich gegründet,
1989 in eine Aktiengesellschaft umgewandelt
und 2014 feiert auch unser wohl bekanntestes
Produkt, der Wiener Philharmoniker, sein 25-jähriges
Jubiläum.
Die Entscheidung unsere Goldbullionmünze der
einzigen Sprache, die wir weltweit verstehen –
der Musik – zu widmen, war eine gute Entscheidung.
Musik geht direkt ins Herz, Musik verbindet
uns über die Grenzen hinweg und daher freut
es mich, dass der Wiener Philharmoniker international
so gut aufgenommen wird. Von der ersten
Prägung an zeigt die Münze auf der einen Seite
Instrumente des berühmten Wiener Orchesters,
namentlich Wiener Horn, Fagott, Harfe, vier Geigen
und mittig ein Cello. Auf der anderen Seite ist
die – etwa vom Neujahrskonzert bekannte –
Orgel im Goldenen Saal des Wiener Musikvereins
zu sehen.
As president of the Mint Directors’ Conference, it
is once again with great pleasure that I welcome
you to the World Money Fair 2014, before I pass
on my duties to our colleagues from the Casa de
Moneda de México in May. This is a very special
event for the Austrian Mint, not only because it
is the Guest of Honour but also because it
celebrates both its 820th and 25th anniversaries
in 2014: the Austrian Mint was founded in 1194
and it became an incorporated company in 1989.
The latter was also the year that the Austrian
Mint launched its flagship brand, the Vienna
Philharmonic bullion coin. The decision made a
quarter of a century ago to use music, the only
language that everybody really understands, as
the theme for the coin has proved to be an
excellent one. Music tugs at your heartstrings
and has the magical ability to unite people in
spite of the borders that separate them. This is a
phenomenon symbolised by the harmonious
assortment of musical instruments, including a
Viennese horn, a bassoon, a harp, four violins and
a cello, that forms the central design of the
Vienna Philharmonic coin.
Music is an integral component of Austria’s
cultural identity. Although the heyday of the
great composers – from Mozart to Mahler – has
now passed, Vienna is still a Mecca for classical

hohen Stellwert. Auch wenn die Zeit der großen
Komponisten von Mozart bis Mahler der
Vergangenheit angehört, ist Wien immer noch
ein Mekka der klassischen Musik und Musikliebhaber
aus der ganzen Welt pilgern nach Wien.
Was Wien für die klassische Musik darstellt, ist
die World Money Fair für Münzliebhaber, Münzhändler
und Prägestätten. Die World Money Fair
zu besuchen, heißt Teil dieser lebendigen internationalen
Gemeinschaft von Enthusiasten zu sein,
die für einige Tage Informationen und Ideen austauschen,
um Sammler und solche, die es werden
sollen, mit den bestmöglichen Produkten zu
begeistern.
Die Namensvetter unseres Markenzeichens, die
Wiener Philharmoniker, wurden durch ihren besonderen
Klang weltberühmt. Das Orchester hat
es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die nach wie vor
aktuelle humanitäre Botschaft der Musik zu verbreiten.
Diese Haltung drückt auch ihr Motto aus,
das schon der legendäre Ludwig van Beethoven
seiner Missa Solemnis voranstellte: „Von Herzen
– möge es wieder zu Herzen gehen.“ Dass es uns
gelingt, diese Philosophie zu leben und wir einen
Diskurs führen, der in Produkten mündet, die imstande
sind Menschen zu berühren, wünsche ich
der World Money Fair 2014.

music, and enthusiasts still flock there from the
four corners of the globe. As the world’s leading
coin show, the World Money Fair is to coins what
Vienna is to classical music. To participate in the
World Money Fair is to feel part of a vibrant
international community of enthusiasts who
exchange information and ideas in order to help
them create the best possible products for their
respective markets.
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, from which
our most famous product takes its name, is
renowned the world over for its unique sound. To
help them create that sound, the members of the
orchestra strive to implement the motto that the
legendary Ludwig van Beethoven, whose
symphonies had a direct influence on the creation
of the orchestra, used to preface his famous
mass, Missa solemnis – “From the heart, to the
heart”. By embracing this philosophy and
instilling our products with emotions to which
people can really relate, we will no doubt
continue to make products that our customers
will continue cherish.
