have established with the <strong>Institute</strong> of Environmental<br />

<strong>Engineering</strong> <strong>and</strong> Biotechnology at the Tampere University<br />

of Technology (Finl<strong>and</strong>) as well as the Dokuz<br />

Eylül University at Izmir (Turkey), the University of Salerno<br />

(Italy), the University of Thessaloniki (Greece),<br />

the Technical University of Temesvar (Romania), the<br />

Universitesi Saints Malaysia (Malaysia), the Guangxi -<br />

University (China), the Universidad Católica Boliviana „<br />

San Pablo“ /Bolivia, the Universidad Costa Rica (Costa<br />

Rica), the Universidade Federal do Parana (Brazil), <strong>and</strong><br />

the Universidade Federal do Santa Catarina (Brazil).<br />

Furthermore, several staff members of the Chair are<br />

active as associated lecturers at other institutions<br />

worldwide.<br />

Conferences<br />

Ingenieure für Wasserwirtschaft, Abfallwirtschaft und<br />

Kulturbau (BWK)); as well as lectures in the field of<br />

waste management within the scope of the distance<br />

education programme “<strong>Water</strong> <strong>and</strong> Environment” offered<br />

by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Finally, in<br />

collaboration with the Turkish Environmental Ministry,<br />

the tradition of the German-Turkish Conferences has<br />

been revived.<br />

Committees<br />

Staff members are also involved in several committees,<br />

including academic councils, professional associations<br />

<strong>and</strong> advisory boards. Since the 1 st , April 2009<br />

Prof. Kranert has been Chairman of the Joint Commission<br />

of Environmental <strong>Engineering</strong>, <strong>and</strong> manager of<br />

this master program is Dipl-Biol. Andreas Sihler. These<br />

include the German <strong>Institute</strong> of Stadardization (DIN),<br />

the Association of German Engineers (VDI e.V.), the<br />

Society of Engineers <strong>for</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Management, <strong>Waste</strong><br />

Management <strong>and</strong> Agricultural Infrastructure (Bund der<br />

Ingenieure für Wasserwirtschaft, Abfallwirtschaft und<br />

Kulturbau (BWK)), Working Group <strong>for</strong> the Valorization<br />

of Municipal <strong>Solid</strong> <strong>Waste</strong> (Arbeitskreis zur Nutzbarmachung<br />

von Siedlungsabfällen (ANS e.V.)), German<br />

Association <strong>for</strong> <strong>Water</strong>, <strong>Waste</strong>water <strong>and</strong> <strong>Waste</strong> (DWA<br />

e.V.), Association <strong>for</strong> <strong>Quality</strong> Control of Compost derived<br />

from Sewage Sludge , Association <strong>for</strong> <strong>Quality</strong> Assurance<br />

of Fertilization <strong>and</strong> Substrates (VQSD eV), the<br />

ORBIT Association, the European Compost Network<br />

(ECN), <strong>and</strong> the Federal Compost <strong>Quality</strong> Association<br />

(Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost (BGK)). Prof. Kranert<br />

is a member of the <strong>Quality</strong> Committee of the BGK,<br />

the Chair of the Trustees of the Professors of <strong>Waste</strong><br />

Disposal Community <strong>for</strong> the German waste disposal industry,<br />

spokesman <strong>for</strong> the Group of Professors in <strong>Solid</strong><br />

<strong>Waste</strong> Management in RETech under the initiative of<br />

the Federal Environment Ministry <strong>and</strong> a member of the<br />

Sustainability Advisory Board of the State of Baden-<br />

Wuerttemberg<br />

Beyond research <strong>and</strong> academic activities, the Chair<br />

is involved in the continuing education <strong>and</strong> advanced<br />

training of professionals. Conferences organized<br />

by the Chair include the “Baden-Wuerttembergischen<br />

<strong>Waste</strong> Days”, hosted together with the Environmental<br />

Ministry of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg;<br />

the waste management colloquia; the l<strong>and</strong>fill seminars,<br />

in association with the Environmental Protection<br />

Agency of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg;<br />

continuing education courses in cooperation with the<br />

Society of Engineers <strong>for</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Management, <strong>Waste</strong><br />

Management <strong>and</strong> Agricultural Infrastructure (Bund der<br />

Additionally, the chairholder serves as referee <strong>for</strong> several<br />

research funding institutions, scholarship foundations<br />

<strong>and</strong> accreditation agencies. Furthermore, several<br />

staff members play a leading role in the Competence<br />

Centre “Environmental <strong>Engineering</strong>” (Kompetenzzentrum<br />

für Umweltschutz Region Stuttgart (KURS e.V.)).<br />
