When you contact our references, we are confident you will hear phrases that include the words “innovation,” “responsiveness,” and “integrity.” A local example of our ideas bringing cost savings to our clients is for Palm Beach County’s Water Plant Number 2, where the magnetic ion exchange (MIEX ® ) process will increase capacity by 14 percent while reducing color, organics, chemical usage, solids production, and nitrification potential in the distribution system. We anticipate that Palm Beach County will recognize an annual operational cost savings of $196,000 to $333,000. A similar process at Carollo’s innovative process recommendations will save Palm Beach County between $196,000 and $333,000 at Water Plant Number 2. North Miami Beach could allow the City to recover 100 percent of its nanofiltration (NF) concentrate while reducing color in the distribution system. Leadership in the Water/Wastewater Industry Our staff has been recognized by appointments to committees in a number of national organizations, including the Carollo staff has been recognized by numerous national committee appointments American Water Works Association (AWWA), Water Environment Federation, and the American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA). Locally, Monica Pazahanick of our Lake Worth office was recently appointed to be editor of AMTA’s quarterly publication Solutions. Tom Gillogly of our Sunrise office serves as an editor of AWWA’s monthly publication the Journal. Dave MacNevin of our Sunrise office serves on AWWA’s national committee on distribution system water quality. Carollo is staying at the forefront of membrane technology in Florida. A major issue for utilities like North Miami Beach that use membrane treatment is the need to increase recovery and minimize the concentrate waste stream produced as part of the process. This is true for both reverse osmosis (RO) and NF treatment technologies. Recognizing our expertise, the South Florida Water Management District selected Carollo to perform a RO Concentrate Minimization study to characterize concentrate recovery opportunities across 14 desalination facilities in the District. Our membrane know-how is not just limited to RO. We recently completed pilot testing for Miami-Dade County where we demonstrated sustainable NF recovery up to 93 percent. Operating at this elevated recovery will provide millions of dollars in cost savings to the County versus developing high-cost alternative water supplies. In addition, Carollo is pioneering the use of an innovative preventative cleaning program for Pompano Beach’s membranes, the first pilot test of this approach for cleaning NF membranes in the world, and the first pilot test of this approach for RO or NF membranes in Florida. Potential cost savings due to reductions in feed pressure, chemical feed, and membrane replacement could total $400,000 per year. A similar program could save the City of North Miami Beach nearly $250,000 per year in chemical feed costs. Carollo will provide the City of North Miami Beach with responsive service and cost saving, proven solutions with our Southeast Florida experience.
