Can computers replace us? Our brains and computer processors work differently and therefore have different strengths. We’ve designed computers to do things that we don’t do very well, which makes perfect sense, because we use them to complement and extend our abilities. They don’t, however, replace our abilities. Even though IBM’s supercomputer named Watson can beat the best human champions of Jeopardy, we can all do with relative ease in a second what Watson can’t figure out with endless effort: recognize that that this is the word “captcha.”
