WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
CO 2 -EMISSIONS
DRASTICALLY REDUCED
Between 2007 and 2011 JACK WOLFSKIN reduced its specific
CO 2 emissions by more than 50 per cent. We achieved this by
completely restructuring our procurement processes, changing
our production and supply cycles and introducing mandatory environmental
standards for our global cargo transport. The use of
solar power and photovoltaic systems and a switch to 100 per
cent green electricity have also contributed to this success.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR
WORKING CONDITIONS
RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR PRODUCTS
JACK WOLFSKIN products are manufactured in accordance with
the highest standards. Our apparel, footwear and equipment pose
absolutely no risk to human health (i.e. they contain no allergenic
or carcinogenic substances and no substances that affect the hormones).
They also conform to the highest international standards.
We work according to the precautionary principle. As such, we
have stringent guidelines that forbid the use of substances that
may have an adverse impact on health or the environment, even
if this has not yet been proven.
Transparency is important to us. We publish details of all regulated
substances with their corresponding limit values on our website.
We are committed to ensuring decent working conditions, not
just in Germany but also in the factories and sewing rooms in
which our products are made.
Since 2008 we have been actively working with our suppliers to
continually improve working conditions. In 2010, we joined the
Fair Wear Foundation, an independent, non-profit organisation
that works with companies and factories to improve conditions
for workers in the clothing industry. The FWF examines our activities
to promote and implement basic codes of conduct in our
manufacturers’ premises and reports publically and transparently
on the progress we have made.
All of JACK WOLFSKIN’s suppliers have been audited by independent
organisations to ensure that they comply with certain social
standards. These include: good working conditions, payment of a
living wage, a ban on child labour or forced labour, reasonable
working hours, freedom of association and the right to a safe and
healthy workplace. JACK WOLFSKIN publishes an annual Supplier
Social Report in which the results and progress of these policies
are fully documented.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR
PRODUCTION PROCESSES
The supply chains for our apparel, footwear and equipment are
very complex and involve various manufacturers, processes and
stages. From the production of raw materials (e.g. cotton growers)
to yarn production, from weaving or knitting, dyeing and finishing
(special fabric finishes, e.g. coatings) to sewing and stitching, a
large number of different suppliers are involved in the production
of any given article. Monitoring the chemical substances used in
the production process and ensuring their safe use, and promoting
the efficient use of resources such as water or energy poses
a particular challenge. Since 2010, JACK WOLFSKIN has been
working with the bluesign® system and other measures to ensure
that each individual process stage in all our factories is safe, both
for people and the environment. We already procure a significant
percentage of our fabrics and components from suppliers whose
entire upstream supply chain complies with the bluesign® system
and are committed to maximum process optimisation.
