PEACE PROCESS
THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HOLD THE PALESTINIANS ACCOUNTABLE
The United States can take actions that help the parties in a fair-minded way and urge them to
maintain their commitments. With respect to the Palestinians, America can support moderate
leaders, without abandoning its insistence that the Palestinian Authority decisively act to
halt violence, incitement and terror, and abide by its Oslo commitment to solve the conflict
through direct negotiations between the two parties. U.S. officials have long opposed the
Palestinians’ effort to circumvent talks by heading to the United Nations. As President Obama
has said, “No vote at the United Nations will ever create an independent Palestinian state.”
The Arab League should encourage the Palestinians to hold talks with Israel and take steps to normalize relations
with the Jewish state.
