18 January 1970 311th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training Squadron, which was historically<br />

aligned with 58th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training <strong>Wing</strong>, activated to<br />

conduct F-100 training, <strong>and</strong> 426th <strong>and</strong> 550th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong><br />

Training Squadron activated to conduct F-100 training.<br />

13 February 1970 First A-7D class entered training.<br />

February 1971 Ocotillo Manor south of Glendale Ave opened with 150 units.<br />

8 March 1970 Reassignment of A-7D program to Davis-Monthan AFB,<br />

Arizona, announced to make room for F-4 training.<br />

Col John S. Clark, Jr., Comm<strong>and</strong>er, 58th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training <strong>Wing</strong><br />

climbs into his F-4C.<br />

7 May 1971 <strong>Wing</strong> received first F-4C Phantom II.<br />

20 July 1971 Last A-7D class graduated. Program moved to Davis-Monthan<br />

AFB after producing 143 graduates.<br />

30 August 1971 F-100 program ended after producing 3,451 graduates.<br />

15 December 1972 <strong>Air</strong> Installation Compatible Use Zone (AICUZ) study submitted<br />

to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to assist in planning<br />

for compatible l<strong>and</strong> use near <strong>Luke</strong>. Board judged requests for<br />

development on case-by-case basis as impossible in 1972 to<br />

determine what noise zones to adopt for what areas, <strong>and</strong> board's<br />

authority to zone based on noise was questioned.
