16 March 1983 USAF/German AF F-104 Starfighter Program ended after<br />

producing 2,200 graduates for North Atlantic Treaty<br />

Organization air forces. The 69th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training<br />

Squadron, which conducted the F-104 program, was inactivated.<br />

06 April 1983 Foreign training began in F-16 as four Pakistanis entered<br />

Transition course with 311th Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training Squadron.<br />

December 1983 58th Tactical Training <strong>Wing</strong> proposed LF for use on F-16 tails to<br />

differentiate 58th Tactical Training <strong>Wing</strong> from 405th Tactical<br />

Training <strong>Wing</strong> jets. All <strong>Luke</strong> host unit jets had used LA on tails<br />

since 1957. Request approved, but extended to all <strong>Luke</strong> host unit<br />

aircraft.<br />

23 December 1983 The 26th North American Aerospace Defense Comm<strong>and</strong><br />

Region/<strong>Air</strong> Division (formerly Phoenix <strong>Air</strong> Defense Sector),<br />

<strong>Luke</strong> tenant unit, moved to March AFB, California.<br />

24 December 1983 Media reported dispute between <strong>Luke</strong>/El Mirage over base's<br />

opposition to envisioned $70 million El Mirage project. <strong>Luke</strong><br />

opposed project as homes planned too close to runways. Initial<br />

findings of upcoming AICUZ revealed proposed development<br />

would be in high noise areas.<br />

1 October 1984 312d Tactical <strong>Fighter</strong> Training Squadron activated as USAF's<br />

first F-16C/D squadron.
