During the late 1970’s the 58th Tactical Training Wing conducted F-4/F-104/F-15/F-5
training, which led to span of control problems. On 29 August 1979, a second wing, the
405th Tactical Training Wing, activated and took on the F-5/F-15 programs while the
58th Tactical Training Wing retained the F-4/F-104 programs. Shown in formation from
