drives are available in all necessary
performance classes and operating
modes and can be networked optimally
using modern pOWeRLINK
technology. With the X2X technology,
remote I/O can also be implemented
in the architecture at longer
distances from the switching cabinet
without problems. the X67 remote
I/O system provides the high level of
protection and connection options
required by Fortuna. "The best part,
however, is definitely the fact that
B&R has the pp420 both in a stainless
steel design and in a standard
design, which allowed us to use the
same basic equipment as the control
platform for the splitting and sharpening
machines and we could therefore
implement a uniform control
philosophy," adds Hubert Kleiser.
Operator errors ruled out
Hans Laßnig is sure that the wellthought-out
user interface contributed
significantly to the success of the
machine. "the software is designed
in such a way that operating errors
are nearly ruled out, and the customer
can also assign less experienced
personnel the task of operating the
machine." the visualization system,
which like the rest of the automation
software for the machine was created
in the Automation Studio engineering
environment, guides the
operator through the complex processing
procedure in strictly defined
sequences. "For example, the opera-
the parts, and then each necessary
step must be carried out before
it's possible to continue," explains
mr. Hoffmann. even with the actual
splitting process, the operator hardly
has to make any adjustments. the
appropriate processes and preset
values are saved in recipes that were
developed with the recipe management
function in Automation Studio.
the operator selects a recipe and
then the skin is split with an accuracy
of a few hundredths of a millimeter.
"users do not have to document how
the skin was split; they only have to
enter the desired splitting results,"
adds the project manager.
But if something does go wrong,
the Fortuna engineers can access
the machines via ethernet because
they are connected using the integrated
ethernet interface on the B&R
panels. In this way, the specialists at
Fortuna can determine if the error
was caused by the machine without
having to leave their workplace in
germany.
So far, this has not been necessary
because the machines have done
their job reliably and without problems.
the operator can therefore enjoy
the benefits of increased capacity
without the restrictions associated
with automation of the manual splitting
process previously used. minimum
the high level of automation and
important features. "the success
with powerful and modern machines
like this splitting machine indicates
where the future for our company
lies: In complex machines that are
easy to operate. This requires a high
level of automation in our products,"
