Reducing costs with scaleable
hardware
A conventional control solution
was no longer able to meet the
current requirements with regard
to speed and precision, so Wraptech
decided to change the system. primarily,
a solution was needed that it
made possible to equip various machine
types with a variety of machine
options in order to provide the corresponding
controller performance. B&R
was chosen because they provide a
wide range of scalable hardware and
local support. thanks to the capability
of integrating all of the components,
it became possible after a short time
to equip each machine type with a
custom system solution with special
consideration given to the price/performance
ratio. A centralized local
product warehouse guarantees the
highest level of availability for all con-
trol components when systems are
serviced.
Optimum performance for each
machine type
the main challenge was meeting the
schedule for changing over the various
machine types that was set when
development was started. All machine
types were to be changed over to the
B&R platform within six months. Simpler
applications were handled with a
B&R power panel pp15, which features
control and visualization in a single
device. Here, the mechanical fill axis
is controlled using the integrated highspeed
inputs and outputs on the pp15.

PP420 was used to control the form, fill
and seal machines for high end products.
