Salt goes through numerous mining
and processing steps on its
way from its alpine deposits to its
end users. In two steps, Salinen
Austria converted its entire production
chain into a uniform automated
system using the APROL
process control system from B&R.
Implemented by Lenzing Technik,
the comprehensive automation
solution brings improved process
safety and considerably reduced
maintenance.
Austrian salt mining and production
is firmly in the hands of Salinen
Austria Ag. the company operates
mines in Altaussee, Hallstatt and
Bad Ischl, where the white gold is
extracted from the surrounding rock
using the borehole well method and
pumped through pipelines to the
central salt works in ebensee, which
was opened in 1979. After the brine
is filtered, the primary production
phase uses thermo-compression to
obtain the salt in its pure form. In
the final production phase the salt is
packaged and prepared for shipping.

store room, a warehouse for finished
goods and numerous auxiliary components),

million tons and a storage volume
of 300,000 tons have been available
since November 2007.
In addition to the selection of wellknown
Bad Ischler table salts used in
the households and restaurants, deicing
salt improves safety on winter
roads, and commercial and industrial
salts are a fundamental element
in the glass, paper, metal and textile
