Temecula Valley Museum The Temecula Valley Museum offers wonderful opportunities for children and adults to learn about the history of the Valley. Our permanent collection and changing exhibits introduce local history, period history, concepts, characters and continuous learning experience for all ages. Our programs include guest lecturers, creative workshops, reenactments of history, museum tours and walking tours of Old Town Temecula. Exhibits: Temecula Valley Museum Glen Travis Photographs- Native American Rock Art and Ceremonial Sites June 23 – July 29 Glen Travis (1917-1997) retired to Temecula in 1985 after working for Garrett Air Research at the Torrance aerospace facility. Prior to that position he had served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Over a period of 12 years he photographed extensively old homes, schools, petroglyphs and other unusual scenes throughout the Temecula Valley and beyond. An extensive collection of his documentation of rock art and Native American Sites will be on exhibit. Gallery Talk: Native American Rock Art and Ceremonial Sites Thursday, July 12 6:00 pm Join us as Paul J. Price an artist, anthropologist preservationist, educator and scholar speaks about the habitat in and around Temecula Valley. Romance of the Bells: The California Missions in Art Gallery Talk: “The Missions of Alta California” Saturday, August 18 - 3:00 pm Join us as Mr. Jean Stern, the Executive Director of the Irvine Museum and the primary author of the illustrated exhibition catalog, presents a talk on “The Missions of Alta California.” A reception and book signing will follow. Refreshments will be served. Erle Stanley Gardner Special Exhibition November 2, 2007 – January 6, 2008 This exhibition focuses on the 50th Anniversary of the Perry Mason Television Series, which ran on CBS from 1957 to 1966. In conjunction with the Golden Anniversary, the exhibition will include elements of Gardner’s writings and adventures relating to his investigations into legends of gold treasure in the West. Opening Reception - Friday, November 2 6:00–8:00 pm Join us for the opening reception of the Erle Stanley Gardner Annual Special Exhibition. Refreshments will be served. The exhibition comes to Temecula courtesy of The Irvine Museum in Irvine, California. The Romance of the Bells exhibit encompasses the work of some of California’s finest landscape artists from the late 1800s to mid-1900s, including well-known Impressionist painters. The Temecula Valley Museum is proud to present this fine selection of artworks. Erle Stanley Gardner Mystery Weekend November 2- 4, 2007 Celebrate the sixth year for the Erle Stanley Gardner Mystery Weekend. Gardner was one of Temecula’s more famous citizens. From his house at Rancho del Paisano in the Temecula Valley, the prolific writer penned 151 books, including 82 featuring the fictional defense attorney Perry Mason. Erle Stanley Gardner Mystery Weekend includes writing seminars, museum exhibits, a Cowboy Poet and Western Music evening titled "Around Uncle Erle's Campfire," and a mystery writing contest and photography contest. Seminars are held on Saturday at the Mary Phillips Senior Center and are free. The mysterywriting contest is open to amateur authors of "unpublished" original mysteries. She was the Academy of Western Artists’ 1997 Female Cowboy Poet of the Year. According to Marshall Trimble, Official Arizona State Historian, “The only thing better that reading Dee’s poems is to sit in the audience and watch her perform them.” Curly Musgrave He is regarded as one of the most innovative and influential singer/songwriters in western Music Today. He has won the Academy of Western Artists Male Performer of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. He has also won the Western Music Association Male Performer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year several times.
