Iowerth fought against the English at other times –<br />

In 1172, Iorwerth, with a large body of Welshmen,<br />

destroyed all the country with fire and sword to the<br />

gates of Gloucester. 77<br />

<strong>The</strong>n in 1175 the King held a great Council for the quelling of the Welsh 78 .<br />

And Iowerth did homage to Henry II at Gloucester 78 .<br />

It is said that Nest was mistress of King Henry II and wife of Sir Ralph<br />

Bluet 79 Henry II had a number of illegitimate children 80 and it is<br />

known he<br />

had a son, Morgan, by a noble Welshwoman called Nest , the<br />

wife of Sir Ralph Bloet, a northern knight who had settled on<br />

the Welsh Marches 81<br />

although why Weir claims Ralph was a northern knight is not clear, in the<br />

Annals Dunelmenses is found only<br />

Henricus rex pater Iohannis regis genuerat eum de<br />

uxore cuisdam militis Angli dicti Radulfi Bloet<br />

[King Henry, father of King John, engendered him [Morgan]<br />

on the wife of a certain English knight called Ralph Bloet<br />
