This course is designed to:
1. Identify representative concepts in the area of health education as a basis for selection of subject matter
content and teaching procedures that will give meaning to the concepts.
2. Encourage active participation and involvement of students as a requirement in concept development.
3. Include recommendations suggested by members of the school community in generaL
4. Develop an understanding of health concepts through two kinds of experiences: cognitive (knowledge
and skills) and affective (values, emotional sets, attitudes and appreciation).
As a result ofthis
course of study, students will be able to:
1. Explain the interrelationship of the emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual dimensions of
health.
2. Regard health as a state of dynamic adaptation to the environmental factors which affect behavior and
well-being.
3. Analyze problems that challenge well-being, health behavior and practices.
4. View health as a way oflife that will help to attain individual goals and utilize one's highest potential
for the betterment of self, family and community.
5. Demonstrate knowledge in the state required curricular areas.
