This course is designed to:<br />

1. Identify representative concepts in the area of health education as a basis for selection of subject matter<br />

content and teaching procedures that will give meaning to the concepts.<br />

2. Encourage active participation and involvement of students as a requirement in concept development.<br />

3. Include recommendations suggested by members of the school community in generaL<br />

4. Develop an understanding of health concepts through two kinds of experiences: cognitive (knowledge<br />

and skills) and affective (values, emotional sets, attitudes and appreciation).<br />

As a result ofthis<br />

course of study, students will be able to:<br />

1. Explain the interrelationship of the emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual dimensions of<br />

health.<br />

2. Regard health as a state of dynamic adaptation to the environmental factors which affect behavior and<br />

well-being.<br />

3. Analyze problems that challenge well-being, health behavior and practices.<br />

4. View health as a way oflife that will help to attain individual goals and utilize one's highest potential<br />

for the betterment of self, family and community.<br />

5. Demonstrate knowledge in the state required curricular areas.<br />
