• I want you to take out a piece of paper and write down what puberty changes
you think boys/girls go through.
• It may help you to think of someone you know who has gone through
puberty and what changes you saw in them.
• Give them 3 - 5 minutes.
• Now get a partner, 3's if necessary, share your list.
• Give them 3 - 5 minutes.
• Then have the pairs/3 's' share what they have written with the class and make a
master list on the board.
• Then pass out "Puberty Changes for Boys & Girls". Review the boy or girl
section, whichever one hasn't been covered yet. Although students focused on
only their gender it is important to understand, appreciate, and accept the
changes of the other gender.
• Boys
• Height and weight increase
• Body hair grows in pubic area, under the anus, and on the face, and
become thicker on the legs
• Muscles become stronger
• Vocal cords get thicker and longer - boys' voices deepen
• The body develops an increased number of red blood cells
• Sweat and oil glands become more active, and body odor changes -
perspiration
• Acne can develop ,
• Some boys develop small and temporary breast tissue
• Reproductive system begins to work - ejaculation & wet dreams
• Need for more independence
• Girls
• Breasts develop .
• Height and weight increase
• Hips and waist become more defined
• Menstruation begins
• Mood changes ~ay occur
• Body hair grows.in the pubic area, under the anns, and becomes thicker
on the arms and legs
• Muscles become stronger
• Fat tissue normally increases
• Vocal cords get thicker and longer
