Sticky Fingers (Con’t. from p. 1)
a guilty pleasure for yourself, or to sell
this product in your own specialty food
store, Sticky Fingers’ unique quality
mixes will be perfect for you.
Thomas Owens and Ted Vogelman, the
two men behind the success story of Sticky
Fingers Bakeries, started the whole Sticky
Fingers project in San Diego, Calif. Sticky
Fingers started by providing muffins and
scones to individuals and coffee shops. By
the late 1980s, Owens and Vogelman decided
to craft a powder scone mix that
would only require adding some water to
it—this would keep the consistency and
taste of their products.
Sticky Fingers Bakeries now offers a
considerable amount of different
products—Irish soda bread mixes, scone
mixes, muffin mixes, Northwest jams, English
curds and, of course, their best-selling
Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix. Sticky Fingers’
variety of Fudge Brownie Mixes
comes in three different varieties, the original
Chocolate Fudge Mix, Mint Chocolate
Chip mix and the Espresso Fudge brownie
mix. All of those products only require you
to add water, eggs and oil to the mix, then
to stir and bake to get the most delicious
brownies since your grandmother’s.
Sticky Fingers’ unique Fudge Brownie
Mixes are all handcrafted from the finest
ingredients possible, along with tons of
irresistible all natural chocolate. The
quality and consistency of Sticky Fingers
Bakeries’ powder mixes has made its
name a well-known established business
in the country. The mixes are easy to prepare
and easy to bake, which gives to all
the opportunity of savoring warm chewy
brownies without the hassle of baking.
Many specialty food stores and high-end
grocery stores are now selling scones,
muffins, breads and brownies from Sticky
Fingers Bakeries.
Sticky Fingers Bakeries has built their reputation
by maintaining a very high standard
of quality, and reliability for all their premium
baking mixes as well as their Northwest
jams, English curds and fruit butters.
Global Sales & Marketing (Con’t. from p. 1)
marketing. After 11 years at GS’S I decided
to join the company with Hassan
Alireza and some of my other colleagues
with the objective of representing specialty
and natural foods in Northern California.
Later that year, we added Dave Quan who
manages our Southern California division
with Ray Yanagita. In fact, we are happy
to announce that Hassan Alireza recently
rejoined the company as a partner in 2010.
It is amazing the way we have grown, although,
this is still the same wonderful
company at the core, but we have now expanded
to more than 12 and growing.
GN: You have Northern and Southern
California covered. In what ways are
you expanding?
JE: We have expanded in a variety of ways:
new personnel, new territories and new avenues
of placement for our brands. We have
added to our local team, with four new people
in our Northern California division: Irv
Witham, Colleen O’Donnell, Chris Chavez,
and as I mentioned before, Hassan Alireza. For
Southern California, look for future announcements
on our expansion. In terms of
new territories, we have expanded into Colorado
with Global Sales Intermountain,
headed by Sandy Fraser. As we add personnel,
we are increasing our presence at every level
from management in retail accounts and distributors
and are able to build on our already
longstanding relationships in the industry.
GN: Where do you see the future headed?
JE: One of our objectives for 2011 is to
expand our business with the drugstore
chains, which has been very successful so
far. We have placed many of our brands in
800 drug accounts, and one brand nationally
in 4,500 stores. Further, we are exploring
other channels, such as an electronics
chain in California, as well as another major
specialty food retailer who has stores
throughout the country. We are always
looking for creative ways to get our
brands to market. For example, we have
many items that could easily be crossmerchandised
in the produce department,
and we have started working with produce
distributors to increase placement.
GN: Has this economy affected your
business and sales?
JE: There was a challenge in early 2008 as
I believe inventories were being reduced,
and at that point in time, no one really knew
where the economy was headed. Thanks to
our great team, things leveled out, and we
still finished the year on a positive note.
Today, we are experiencing double-digit
growth, and we see every reason to continue
with this trend.
We at Global Sales & Marketing believe that
we have gathered some of the finest people
in the business and will continue to serve
our customers and vendors with dedication,
integrity and hard work. The specialty and
natural food business is such a dynamic and
growing industry, which we are excited to
be a part of.
Corto Olive (Con’t. from p. 61)
As the oil is produced it is immediately
transferred to stainless steel storage tanks inside
a climate-controlled cellar (cool and
dark) facility that maintains oil at peak
freshness until delivery to customers. Their
modern facility is capable of dependably
producing, storing and packaging for both
small and large volume customers.
Corto Olive is part of a family of food
processing companies that have operated in
California’s central valley for more than 50
years. They have a valued reputation for premium
products and have the financial resources
to guarantee consistent quality,
superiority and reliability of supply. Vertically
integrated from olive groves through
oil milling, Corto Olive’s culture is singularly
focused on quality, superiority and supply
reliability. They are not content to be
anything less than the gold standard of extra
virgin olive oil. Learn more about Corto
