Braswell’s Celebrates 65th Anniversary
With Two sofi Award Nominations
For 65 years, Braswell Food Company
has matched outstanding
recipes with innovative, attractive
packaging and has become the
leader in the specialty condiment
and preserve industry. In 2011,
Braswell’s is building on the success
of the new, distinctive glass
serving carafe packaging with the
introduction of its Braswell’s Select
Mustards and Relishes. These
products are made with premium,
hand-crafted ingredients and flavors. They
are packaged in distinctive reusable French
juice glasses that are as attractive as they are
Earth-friendly.
At the Summer Fancy Food Show
Braswell’s will also be featuring
its extremely successful line
of Carafe Dressings. These
beautiful carafes are filled with
the all-natural and popular
dressing flavors that have made
Braswell’s a leader in the gourmet
salad dressing category, including
Peach Vanilla, Vidalia
Onion & Summer Tomato, Vidalia
Onion Peppercorn, Raspberry
Vinaigrette and Balsamic
Vinaigrette. The embossed carafes also feature
beautiful hang tags that are full of
recipes and serving suggestions.
Braswell Food Company has been selected
as a Silver Finalist in two categories
in the 2011 NASFT sofi Awards Competition.
Braswell’s Select Smoky Chipotle Mustard
was selected as a finalist in the
Outstanding Condiment category and
Braswell’s Select Balsamic Sweet Onion
Jam was selected as an Outstanding Jam,
Preserve, Honey or Nut Butter Finalist. As a
Silver Finalist in the competition, Braswell’s
will be featured in a red-carpet awards ceremony
in Washington, D.C. that will be
hosted by noted Iron Chef and television
food personality Cat Cora.
The Braswell’s Select line consists of
gourmet teas, seafood accompaniments,
dressings and dipping sauces that are made
in small, hand-stirred batches using only
the finest ingredients. What makes them
unique beyond their exquisite taste is that
they are packaged in fine European,
reusable glassware that consumers enjoy
collecting and using again and again, year
after year. Perfect for everyday use as well
as entertaining, this glassware is a throwback
to the jelly jar glasses we so fondly
remember, but they have a distinctly modern
look and elegant flair. In a time when
most things aren’t made to last, Braswell’s
Selects are a treat for the senses and an environmentally
conscientious choice. The
Braswell’s Select line also includes more
than 20 delicious preserves, jams, honey
and fruit butters―all made with the finest
all natural ingredients in small hand-stirred
batches. They come in 15- and 13-ounce
highball and old-fashioned glasses, and
7.75-ounce tumblers. Popular flavors include
Peach Apricot with Sauterne Preserves,
Blueberry Preserves and the ever
popular Fig Preserves.
Flamous Brands Offers Health
And Taste In Every Bite
Sam Shehayeb, CEO of Flamous Brands,
discusses his company’s products and outlook.
GN: Tell our readers a little about your company.
What’s your main line of business?
SS: Flamous Brands, Inc. was developed out
of a need to make products that are healthy
and delicious. We will only produce a product
that we would feel comfortable serving
to our families. Our main focus is finding the
right blend of both health and taste, because
there’s really no point if you don’t have both!
GN: What would you say makes your company
unique?
SS: Flamous engages in innovating foods
that are first in the market: the first Falafel
Chips and the world’s first Hummus Dressing.
Our uniqueness is based on a Mediterranean
diet that has been proven for centuries
to be balanced in nutrition, balanced in taste,
sustainable, and has low or no allergens.
GN: Are you introducing any new products?
SS: We are always looking to expand our line
of products. Our main focus is branching out
into different sizes. Right now, our main staple
is our eight-ounce Organic Falafel Chips
(available in Original and Spicy flavors), but
we’ve seen such a huge demand for other options
that we’ve developed an All Natural variety.
It’s the same amazing product in a
convenient, ready-to-eat package. We are also
continuing research and development on our
line of Hummus Dressings and Dips.
GN: What products do you see as being
hottest this year?
SS: Clearly, the trends have been geared towards
healthy, innovative products that offer a
combination of healthy, delicious and convenient
items. Organic and Non-GMO products
have really gained momentum lately, and more
and more consumers are realizing just how important
it is to support companies that work
hard to ensure that delicious and healthy food
is being produced in a way that is not harmful
to our families or our planet. Gluten-free products
are another major trend in the marketplace
as people are discovering an intolerance. Making
sure that people with Celiac Disease can
live and eat without a sense of deprivation is
incredibly important. Certainly, our products
fall in line with all of these trends.
GN: What distinguishes your products from
the competition?
SS: We were the world’s first creator of
Falafel Chips, and we are incredibly proud
of that fact. We’ve noticed many other companies
and products trying to imitate the offering,
taste, flavor, etc. We like that our
mission and our product is a positive trend
on the snack market. Our products are 100-
percent USDA Certified Organic, Certified
Gluten Free, Vegan, Kosher, GMO Free, and
they taste out of this world. Containing over
23 different herbs, vegetables and spices,
Falafel Chips are the perfect (healthy) vehicle
for hummus, bean dips, salsas and guacamole.
And this one really sets us apart: the
vegetables and spices included in each single
one-ounce serving of our Falafel Chip
recipe contain the equivalent antioxidant potency
to a 3.3-ounce glass of vegetable juice
or a 3.3-ounce cup of green tea. Love that!
GN: Tell our readers about your trade show
objectives, plans, products, promotions, etc.
SS: Each show presents its own unique opportunities,
and the Fancy Food Show has always
been great for us. We plan to reinforce
our organic line, while at the same time developing
interest in our newer products. Promotions
are offered to both first time and
repeat buyers, with an emphasis on in-store
promotions and sampling because it really
does help spread the word about our growing
company and our delicious products.
GN: What is your outlook in general for this
product line?
SS: More and more companies will follow
the tasty, healthy trend. Consumers today are
very savvy and requiring not just tasty,
healthy and readily available snacks. They
do not even accept a compromise. What consumers
want is all of it. We responded, and
others will do the same.
GN: To what do you attribute your company’s
success?
SS: Hard work, dedication, a fantastic team,
and great timing and commitment to quality.
Granted the economy and many of us
are struggling, we remain positive and focused
on the positive trend with our nation
geared towards healthy eating and building
happy, healthy families with a total-value
line of products.
Bertie County Peanuts:
A Family Tradition
Bertie County Peanuts was launched in 1992
in Windsor, North Carolina by Powell &
Stokes, Inc. Powell & Stokes is a farm supply
and bulk peanut buying company that
was founded in 1919 by the Powell and
Stokes families. The families have been producing
peanuts since at least 1898.
Bertie County Peanuts was founded on the
simple principle that consumers deserve only
the best peanut product. Thus, the company
produces peanut products that are made only
from Super Extra Large Virginia type
peanuts. Super Extra Large peanuts are the
largest peanuts on the retail market and because
of their size and taste are considered a
true gourmet peanut. The peanuts used by
Bertie County Peanuts are locally grown and
then packaged in recyclable plastic jars so
that the products are visible to the consumer.
Bertie County Peanuts began as a small retail
arm of the larger farm supply business.
However, due to the outstanding quality of
the award-winning peanut products, the business
has experienced tremendous growth
over the past 19 years.
