Quality Jams, Jellies, Chutneys And
Seasonings: Introducing Sunrite Select
Central Food Packers Limited is proud to announce
the addition of its gourmet line “Sunrite
Select”, a range of tropical jams, jellies,
chutneys and seasonings made with the absolute
finest Jamaican ingredients. Central
Food Packers Limited has a long history of
providing quality products made with highquality
authentic Jamaican ingredients, and
their new Sunrite Select line is ideal for specialty
food and gift stores. The name Sunrite
evolved out of their conviction for using ingredients
grown and ripened under the warm
Jamaican sun, ultimately making their products
“Just Rite.”
Founded in 1985, Central Food Packers is
one of Jamaica’s leading agro-processing
manufacturers and exporters of canned, bottled
and baked products, and is both HACCP
approved and ISO 14001 certified. Central
Food Packers is committed to Jamaica’s
socio-economic development and plays an
active role in the community development of
Central Village, employing over 220 persons
from the community and its environs.
Just over two decades ago, Central Food
Packers started out with one product, canning
Jamaica’s national fruit “Ackee.” Today, the
company boasts a range of over 22 products,
all produced at their factory in Central Village.
Inspired by the many tropical flavors
home to Jamaica, they are currently working
Let’s Talk Packaging: Mid-Atlantic CEO
Herb Glanden Thinks Inside The Box
Mid-Atlantic Packaging provides custom
printed and stock packaging products
(bags, boxes, labels, tissue) to retail establishments
and product manufacturers. With
regional sales representatives from North
Carolina through New Jersey, and with an
experienced inside sales team, Mid-Atlantic
Packaging is helping customers create
innovative and functional packaging
that furthers their brand recognition. In addition
to custom designed packaging, Mid-
Atlantic Packaging ships stock products
nationwide and offers local delivery to the
Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia,
Pa. metro areas.
We sat down with Mr. Herb Glanden, President
and CEO of Mid-Atlantic Packaging,
to talk about Mid-Atlantic Packaging and get
his thoughts on packaging.
GN: What makes Mid-Atlantic Packaging
unique?
HG: We are a full-service packaging distributor.
We can provide a retail store with their
basic, everyday, plain stock needs along with
helping them design printed materials such as
bags, boxes and labels to better promote their
brand marketing. Our sales team has over 130
years of combined sales experience and, along
with our graphics design department, is there
to help create the image the client desires.
GN: What are customers looking for in
packaging today?
HG: They are looking for earth-friendly
packaging made of natural or recycled materials.
In the past, some of the recycled packaging
materials costs were 30-percent higher
than goods made of virgin material, so very
few retailers chose to use the Green option.
Today, recycled paper shopping bags and
boxes made of recycled paper board are similar
in price to regular products. Even plastic
bag manufacturers have the capability to put
degradable additives in their bags that accelerate
the decomposition process. One of the
most exciting products we see in the market
place is natural fiber bags―cotton, jute and
hemp bags. European countries have used
these bags for many years for grocery shopping
and, because they are a sustainable product
and naturally decompose when discarded,
they are the ideal bag for many applications.
GN: What are your tradeshow objectives
and what are you doing to promote your
company?
HG: We have been in business for 30 years
and one of the wonderful things about the
Fancy Food Show is that we get to see and
meet with long standing customers. Many of
these accounts have bought stock shrink
film, cello, bows and ribbons, and also custom
printed bags, labels and boxes. The opportunity
to showcase new products and
colors is also exciting, because buyers can
actually see and touch what they might have
seen in a catalog. The show gives us the
chance to help customers and prospects solve
a problem or fill a need with our packaging
products. In addition to presenting new
products, we also offer show discounts to
show attendees. Also, we offer periodic promotions
to customers and prospects who
provide us with their email address. I must
add that we take great pride in assuring customers
and prospects that their information
is not shared or sold to other vendors, and
that their online information is secure.
GN: What is your outlook in general for
Mid-Atlantic Packaging?
HG: We are very excited about our opportunities
in the specialty food marketplace. We
have built a strong, knowledgeable sales team
that is focused on meeting customer’s needs
and building long-term relationships. Additionally,
we have expanded our local delivery
area to include the Washington DC, Baltimore,
Md. and Philadelphia, Pa. metro areas.
We are also known for promptly shipping
products nationwide from our facility in
Delaware. We stock thousands of items and
our staff takes great pride in getting orders
out the door in 24 hours or less. Another great
resource we offer is our e-commerce website,
