Purely American Presents Kosher
Dinner Kits For The Jewish Sabbath
Purely American, an Athens, Ohio-based
manufacturer of dried bean soup mixes, organic
blends and convenient dinner kits, is
excited about launching its new line of dinner
kits specifically designed for those who
practice the observation of Shabbos (the
Jewish Sabbath), during which observant
Jews do not light or extinguish fire or electricity
after sundown on Friday evening.
Salt-free, gluten-free, no MSG and koshercertified,
these dinner kits are perfect for
preparing for the Sabbath.
The new line includes four flavors: Beef
Cholent, Chicken Cholent, Split Pea with
Leeks and Middle Eastern Lentil. Each comes
with easy to follow instructions, a vegetarian
version, as well as several creative variations.
Each also offers two slow simmered ways to
prepare, in a slow cooker as well as in a casserole
baked on low heat in the oven.
For those looking to become more aware of
traditional Jewish foods and traditions, the
side panel illustrates a brief history and origin
of this longtime Jewish tradition of preparing
the meal for Saturday on Friday evening.
To retailers looking to offer their
customers a healthy, time-saving solution to
meals on the Sabbath or at any time their
customers do not have time to cook the meal
from scratch, our new dinner kits are the perfect
solution.
In addition, expanding retailers looking to
grow their own brands by private labeling
will find that our new CHOLENT line to be
the perfect addition.
Stonewall Kitchen Tastefully
Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
2011 marks the 20th anniversary of the internationally
recognized, award-winning
specialty food manufacturer Stonewall
Kitchen. Based in York, Maine, the company
was started in 1991 by entrepreneurs
and New England natives Jim Stott and
Jonathan King. Today, both men continue
to be actively involved in the privately
held company.
Operating out of their home in Hampton,
N.H., the two gardeners, waiters and “foodies”
first started out in 1991 bottling products
at night on an apartment-sized stove that
they would sell at local farmers’ markets in
the morning. Response to their products was
overwhelmingly positive and soon the pair
was wholesaling their handmade specialty
foods throughout New England. Customers
were, and still are, struck by the unique flavor
combinations, creative and well-designed
packaging, and consistent quality for
which Stonewall Kitchen is known.
Throughout the 20 years, Stott and King
have created a strong, recognizable brand
that is displayed on shelves in specialty food
stores throughout the nation and is beginning
to be distributed throughout the world. The
company is the most highly awarded specialty
food manufacturer in the United States
by the National Association of Specialty
Food Trade. Along with dozens of individual
awards, Stonewall Kitchen products have
earned the Outstanding Product Line Award
three times, as well as several notable awards
for Maine-based businesses.
As part of the 20th-anniversary celebration,
Stonewall Kitchen introduced a new
celebratory jam, Wild Maine Blueberry
Champagne Jam. This incredibly flavorful
jam is inspired by the company’s numberone
selling product, Wild Maine Blueberry
Jam, and is a limited reserve product. As it
has been from 1991, the company prides itself
on introducing new and exciting products
every year. This year is no exception,
with the already awarded Roasted Peach
Whiskey Grille Sauce that leads the list of
more than a dozen new products. Baked
doughnut mixes and decadent dessert sauces
such as Pumpkin Caramel Sauce have already
garnered attention.
Owners Jonathan King and Jim Stott experience
continual growth with their 20-
year-old company, which, from the start,
always focused on producing high-quality
and unique food products such as those they
originally sold at the local farmers’ market
in 1991. In 2011, having doubled production
capacity in the past seven years, it was decided
that upgrades to Stonewall Kitchen’s
11-year-old kitchen must be made to support
growth. The production team and executives
worked closely with Dutch engineers to fabricate
state-of-the-art vacuum kettles that integrate
functionality such as touch screens,
an automatic flow system, and mechanisms
that allow for increased fruit distribution and
enhanced brightness in the finished products.
Owner Jonathan King states, “Our major
manufacturing upgrades will not only continue
to improve our award-winning product
line, but also provide Stonewall Kitchen with
the tools to continue to grow our business for
the next decade, which is something we all
look forward to.”
