In 1999, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB)
offered its first Grant Program to provide funds for colleges
and universities to develop campus -community coalitions. In
2001, the PLCB expanded its efforts and provided additional
funding to eligible local community entities, organizations,
municipalities, law enforcement departments, primary
or secondary schools and school districts throughout
Pennsylvania for specially designated Underage Drinking
projects.
For the PLCB’s 2011-2012 Grant to Reduce Underage and
Dangerous Drinking, all grant projects must be directly
related to alcohol issues that target the under -21 population
and entail an environmental strategy which addresses the
inappropriate and excessive consumption of alcohol by
minors. Examples of allowable grant projects include:
– Alcohol Risk Assessment activities
– CORE Survey Administration
– Source Investigation Projects
– Alcohol Patrols for monitoring of community and/or
college campus parties including bike patrols
– Special Underage Law Enforcement Operations
– GIS Mapping (Geographic Information Systems)
– Court Watch programs
– Curriculum Infusion
– Social Norms Campaigns
– Safe Homes Campaign
– Trainings related to Campus or Community readiness for
environmental management strategies and procedures
DEADLINE / REGULATIONS
Grant applications and deadlines are
posted on the PLCB’s Bureau of Alcohol
Education’s website: www.lcb.state.pa.us.
Only one grant per organization, school
district, community organization,
municipality or institution of higher
education will be awarded. Multiple
requests from an agency will not be
considered. Coordination between
departments is strongly encouraged.
Grant projects must be directly related
to alcohol issues that target the under -21
population and entail an environmental
strategy, which addresses the inappropriate
and excessive consumption of alcohol by
minors.
The grant will be funded for up to $15,000.
The grant period is for a maximum of one
year and will extend from the effective
date through June 30, 2012. The Bureau of
Alcohol Education will notify the grantee
of the official start date after all legal
requirements have been met.
Because the grant is reimbursable only,
grantees will only be paid for services
that have been rendered. In addition,
the PLCB requires a 25 percent match
from grantees in an effort to move grant
funded activities toward sustainability and
institutionalization. (i.e., for the full $15,000
grant award, an entity must match the grant
funds with at least $3,750.)
