Education Assistance Program (Act 11 of 2000) – This
public service grant provides funds to help cover the cost of
tuition for eligible Pennsylvania National Guard members
who attend approved institutions of higher learning located in
Pennsylvania.
Grants are available to eligible PA National Guard members
for 100 percent of the tuition cost for full-time students (12 or
more credits) at a State System of Higher Education (SSHE)
school. Those members attending a non-SSHE school would
be eligible to receive the equivalent amount, $2,902, or their
actual tuition cost, whichever is less per semester. PA National
Guard members that do not possess a bachelor’s degree and
are enrolled as a part-time student (3 to 11 credits) can receive
100 percent of their tuition or $1,934 per semester, whichever
amount is less; those members possessing a bachelor’s degree
would be eligible to receive 50 percent of their tuition or $967
per semester, whichever amount is less.
DEADLINE / REGULATIONS
Members who were deployed to a combat
zone will have their eligibility for EAP
extended for a period of one year or for one
additional month for each month of service,
whichever is longer. Eligible EAP members
who were ordered to active Federal service
or active State duty will have the deadline
for making grant payments extended for one
additional month for each month of service
after the member is discharged or released
under honorable conditions from the PA
National Guard.
Eligible members discharged after 11
September 2001 because of a line of duty
injury will have extended EAP benefits
for 6 years from the date of the “Medical”
discharge.
