He explains it is a viable option for people looking to reduce isolated fatty pockets. ‘While the results are not as drastic as more invasive methods for body contouring, they are certainly significant,’ says Dr Kode. ‘Before and after photographs show a visible difference after treatment with Exilis, and patients notice a reduction in fatty pockets and the tightening effect.’ Exilis treatment promotes skin tightening as well as fat reduction for an all-encompassing, rejuvenating effect Exilis,’ he explains. ‘For example, if you put a wet sponge and a dry sponge in the microwave, the wet sponge will absorb more heat – just as the skin and fat tissue will absorb more heat when they’re well hydrated.’ Dr Magnusson describes the procedure as a ‘massage type’ experience: ‘During an Exilis treatment patients will experience an intense heat but no pain. Most people say it feels relaxing like a hot stone massage.’ While Exilis is suitable for many patients, Dr Magnusson explains it should not be considered an alternative to weight loss. ‘Body contouring patients are usually fit and healthy but have stubborn areas of fat that remain, even after diet and exercise,’ he says. ‘Additionally, Exilis can help restore post-baby bellies, and improve the appearance of loose skin and stretch marks after pregnancy.’ The combined technologies of Exilis – using both radiofrequency and ultrasound energy – incurs a doublefold effect. Both fat reduction and skin tightening can be achieved after a series of Exilis treatments. ‘The Exilis system causes thermal damage to the collagen and elastin in the skin,’ Dr Magnusson explains. Dr Kode often uses Exilis in combination with other procedures, and believes the skin tightening benefit can optimise results following liposuction. For fat reduction itself, Exilis precisely targets different layers of subcutaneous fat and several passes are performed to achieve even, consistent results. While Exilis is an effective option for non-invasive fat reduction and body contouring, Dr Kode says it should not be considered an alternative to weight loss. ‘Fat reduction with Exilis is best suited to patients who are a healthy, level weight,’ Dr Kode explains. ‘It is used to treat pockets of stubborn fatty tissue, not to achieve overall weight loss. For the right candidate, this non-invasive treatment can achieve great results in refining the figure and contours.’ Multiple sessions are generally required to optimise results. Four treatments are typically performed, usually one to two weeks apart. It normally takes three to six months for the full result to become evident, once collagen synthesis has occurred and the dead fat cells have been metabolised by the body. ‘Patients will feel heat but no discomfort during treatment with Exilis,’ Dr Kode explains. ‘No anaesthesia is needed, and most of patients report that it’s an overall relaxing experience.’ In a cutting-edge combination of radiofrequency and ultrasound technology, Exilis can achieve effective results in body contouring and skin rejuvenation.
