According to Dr Ajaka, patients should be doing their
research before approaching a practitioner, and the initial
consultation should provide further education on a range
of issues.
‘It’s encouraging feedback that women are doing their
research ahead of their treatments, but they shouldn’t
stop once the appointment is booked,’ Dr Ajaka advises.
‘Patients can always ask me questions during their
consultation and I encourage them to do so. I discuss the
time it takes for anti-wrinkle injections to become effective;
post-treatment care and precautions; potential risks such
as bruising and droopy eyes; and rare side effects such as
flu-like symptoms, double vision or headaches.’
The use of injectables

The use of anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers can
be tailored to different patients. Various approaches can
be used to achieve different results in facial rejuvenation,
depending on the patient’s concerns, desires and

expectations. Dr Scamp stresses an individualised
approach is essential to achieve natural-looking results in
non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
‘I explain the ageing process to patients and the way
it manifests itself in ageing skin, expression lines, volume
loss and tissue sag,’ he says. ‘In younger patients, I
discuss facial proportions and the shapes that make a face
universally attractive. I then discuss both surgical and nonsurgical
options to improve the appearance and how these

can interact. There is no one single method I use to assess
a face and I try to individualise treatments to best suit the
patient’s face and their desires.’
According to Dr Ajaka, anti-wrinkle injections constitute
a major part of his clinic’s practice. He explains there are
several treatment options, suited to a variety of patients.
‘We administer anti-wrinkle injections just about every
day at the clinic; it’s our most common cosmetic treatment,’
he says. ‘There is not a typical patient type; we treat male
and female, from all backgrounds and over a vast age
range. The areas we commonly treat include the forehead,
frown lines (glabella) and crow’s feet around the eyes. We
can also correct eyebrow height symmetry, gummy smiles
and soften the “square jaw” look.’
With around 33,000 anti-wrinkle injections administered

injections. The patient’s understanding also supports the
treating practitioner, as it enables the injector to accurately
understand, assess and treat the patient to generate the
