Мукачевский православный монастырь
на Чернечьей горе – один из старейших в Украине.
По преданию, история его берет начало в XI веке
от дочери князя Ярослава Мудрого Анастасии и ее
мужа, венгерского короля Андрея I.
The orthodox monastery located at Monastic Hill
near Mukacheve is one of the oldest of its kind in
Ukraine. A local legend suggests that it dates back to
the early 11th century and was founded by Anastasia,
the daughter of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, and her
husband, King Andreas I of Hungary.

Many believe that a happy
life will ensue after meeting
a chimney sweep. The citizens
of Mukacheve, where a bronze
statue of a chimney sweep
sits in the city centre, are no
strangers to such talk. The
model for the city monument
was Mr. Bertalan Tovt, a local
chimney sweep who continues
at his work to this day. His
profession remains in great
demand in Mukacheve since
many chimneys are still in use
throughout the city.

The Сity Hall building is decorated with a clock that
was once considered one of the finest of its kind in
Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.
