Creating animated pictures is much more complicated because multiple files are needed to create a single<br />

animated visual stimulus. In order to produce movement, we need many images created in Adobe<br />

Photoshop. We then layer those images in Adobe Flash to create movement. The following is a picture of<br />

all the files needed for one animated picture.<br />

When creating visual stimuli for our research, we need to control for confounding variables.<br />

Pictures should have only components that must be present for it to be an accurate representation of the<br />

schema. Furthermore, each component in a scene should remain the same when placed in another visual<br />

stimulus. For example, once the location “courthouse” is created, it should appear the same in each visual<br />

stimulus that has a “courthouse”. Each participant will only see a component of a visual stimulus one time,<br />

but using separate depictions of a component would create a confound. The following visual stimuli are<br />
